PFD type 3 minimum - PFDs will
be checked before teams are allowed to enter the water. If a team
member does not have the correct type of PFD you WILL NOT be allowed
onto the water. If you have questions about your PFD please see a
RACE OFFICIAL (Not a volunteer) at the pre race meeting to verify
your PFD is sufficient.
Paddle

light sticks (Minimum 5 inches)
Canoe (Kayak for solo competitors) Canoe must
be plastic, Royalex or similar and must be between 15 and 18 feet in
length to be ranked officially within you category. Kevlar, Carbon
Fiber or Aluminum boats are allowed but you will not be ranked
officially within your category. Solo racers will be allowed to you
whatever type of boat they would like. All three-person and
two-person team members must be in the same canoe. Support crews
are responsible for transporting the boat for the duration of the
race. If your team needs to rent a canoe a limited number of boats
will be available through CBS Sports in Morganton. To reserve one
of these boats call Brian Searcy at 828-437-7016. The boats will be
available for pick up on Friday afternoon (CBS sports is
approximately 2 miles from the location of the pre-race meeting) and
can be returned Sunday afternoon. A special discounted price has
been negotiated for rental of the boats for the weekend.
